Welcome to the May Newsletter. In previous months, I have mentioned that this is a very auspicious year as 2025 is a Universal year 9, which marks the beginning of a brand new nine-year cycle. This is a year where we can expect a lot of change and new possibilities. The 2025 Essence was created to make the most of the opportunities this year will present while also helping one to safely navigate through all the change. Change has certainly been the case in these first few months where we have had tremendous political and economic upheaval. Last week we had the death of Pope Francis and it will be interesting to see where the next Pope will lead the 1.4 billion Catholics. On a personal note, after thirty years, my wife Jane retired as the principal harpist with the Australian Opera.
Retirement and change are key themes that I address in my Graceful Ageing workshop, one of my most frequently requested presentations and one that I will be teaching in England, Brazil and Chile this year.
With an ageing population in many countries, the ability to age gracefully is a very important and timely topic to consider. The emphasis in my Graceful Ageing workshop is on issues someone will likely confront in their mid-life years from around the age of 50 onwards. Some of the specific issues covered in the workshop include: menopause - for both men and women; physical limitation; movement and co-ordination; digestion; sleep problems; common illnesses of older people, e.g. arthritis, Alzheimers, glaucoma, strokes, hip replacement, heart disease, etc.; confronting one’s mortality; death of a spouse; moving into and adjusting to a retirement or nursing home; living alone; sexuality and family issues.
I will touch on a few of these topics in this newsletter and mention some of the key Bush Essences that can be used with them. Wild Potato Bush is the most important Bush Essence for dealing with physical limitation and restriction and this essence is going to be more widely used for people over the age of 50 than those who are younger. It’s especially suitable also for women in the late stages of pregnancy or for individuals with sports-related injuries that limit their ability to walk, run or move freely. As people age – particularly from their 80s onward – issues like reduced coordination, muscle weakness and increased frailty become more common, all of which can contribute to a higher risk of accidents and falls. For many people in this age category, their rate of healing may be slower than when they were younger. Consequently, both quantity and quality of life can be hampered by such accidents. Wild Potato Bush is indicated for the frustration where physical movement is restricted; of a slow recovery or of never regaining the full functionality that they had prior.
Bush Fuchsia is also a good remedy to be taken as a preventative by for an older person to lessen their chance of tripping or falling. If for example, an older person carrying bags of shopping slips going up or down stairs, the Bush Fuchsia can help them regain balance without falling over. Of course, Emergency Essence is always useful to have on hand in case of falls or accidents. If a broken bone resulted from such an event, then the Emergency Essence is recommended, especially for the first couple of days in dealing with the initial shock and upset.
Weight bearing exercise is very important in maintaining bone density and integrity. From the age of 50 onwards a lot of people reduce their amount of physical exercise. Flannel Flower helps inspire physical activity, preventing the tendency to become sedentary. Just before my mother turned ninety she moved into a retirement village where all the residents went to a hall for their meals. Nearly everyone used a walker, but rarely moved apart from going to meals. I was always amazed by the number of walkers parked along the corridor near their dining room, it seems likely that every person had one! In Traditional Chinese Medicine they believe that you die from your feet up so that if you are not moving you are speeding up your inevitable demise.
Many of the residents in these institutions had to go through tremendous change when moving there. For many it entailed moving to a new suburb, sometimes a long way from where they had been living. For some it had been precipitated by the loss of their partner and in many cases it meant downsizing not only from a much larger home or apartment, but also letting go of all their possessions, furniture etc and keepsakes and keeping only what could fit into a small room. Bottlebrush of course will be very helpful for someone needing to go through such a process, enabling them to be quite ruthless in discarding what they will not need. The Antarctic Essence, in the Light Frequency Essences range, will also help, not so much in getting rid of things, but in determining what is essential in their lives.
Madagascar Essence, also from the Light Frequency Essence range, helps remove yourself from the limiting beliefs around health and wellbeing contained in mass consciousness. The latter is like a psychic cloud that is made up of every past and present person’s thoughts, feelings and emotions. We are all influenced by mass consciousness. The Madagascar Essence helps to extract yourself from the limiting beliefs that we are indoctrinated with consciously and subconsciously from the day we are born. Examples of such beliefs affecting our health are the biblical statement that man’s life expectancy is “three score plus ten” or that your body falls apart as you get older. If you are doing regular exercise, you will only lose a very small percentage annually of body strength. There was a very interesting experiment when a group of men in their 70s and 80s were taken to a closed community which was set up to resemble the era thirty years earlier. The music, food, clothing and magazines provided were all from that era. After just one week, all the men showed remarkable youthfulness, renewed strength and improved mental function – demonstrating how easily many things we often see as irreversible can, in fact, be reversed. Our Bush and Spiritual Essences, by clearing negative beliefs in the subconscious and at a deep level of the psyche and emotions, will also help reverse the irreversible.
Certainly for an older person, one of the issues they are likely to confront is the loss of old friends and relatives who they may have known most of their life. As women outlive men by an average of 4 years this also includes in many cases their spouse. Red Suva Frangipani can be considered for the initial shock and upset of the loss of someone close to you. Sturt Desert Pea deals with the ongoing sadness this may bring. Tall Yellow Top can also be very important as many older people feel very alone and lonely because they don’t have many, or in some cases any, old friends left. This of course can be exacerbated if they no longer have a driver’s licence, a car or the mobility to get out and about and visit people. In nursing homes and retirement villages they find it more difficult to make new friends as many people suffer from dementia and forget conversations or are living in their own little world that is hard to enter.
Bush Iris can be employed if there is any concern of death arising or doubts as to whether there is life after death. Bush Iris is very good in helping you realise that there is more to life than what the mere five physical senses can reveal and that there is a realm beyond the physical. It can be very scary for someone coming towards the end of their life and not knowing if there is anything afterwards. Transition Essence, which contains the Bush Iris, is a wonderful combination that can help an individual die with a lot of ease and dignity and graceful ageing should also entail graceful dying. I was very grateful for the opportunity to help with my own dad’s passing with this combination. He had suffered a severe stroke 3 weeks earlier from which he never regained consciousness and in his last few days the doctors mentioned he was experiencing organ failure.
At that point, I switched from using Emergency Essence topically to applying Transition Essence and asked the nurses to do the same. On his final morning, he died within a minute of the last application I gave him of the Transition Essence, as well as giving him permission to leave. Many people have reported great peace and tranquillity coming over loved ones close to death after giving the Transition Essence. There have also been many testimonials and case histories of people dying in pain and receiving morphine for their pain, yet after Transition Essence were able to reduce their morphine levels and became quite lucid both mentally and psychically before passing over. This heightened psychic perception often led them to see and recognise loved ones who had already passed over offering assistance during their final hours. With the higher morphine dose, they could not tell it if was a drug-induced delusion or an apparition and received no benefit from all the spiritual comfort at hand.
I have barely touched on this topic of Graceful Ageing but I wanted to highlight a few areas to give you a sense of how you can employ Bush Essences for this stage of life. Obviously in the workshop you can receive a great deal of further information.
