Tall Yellow Top : Belonging

The reason why I chose this Essence is because I had an experience where I felt very isolated and lonely and felt that Tall Yellow Top described my feeling perfectly.  The previous week I had had a bit of an uncomfortable experience, visiting my partner’s family for the first time in New Zealand.  Although they welcomed me warmly and were extremely generous and gracious (all flights, accommodation etc were taken care of by them!).  I still could not help but feel extremely self-conscious and “not good enough” for them.  I felt like an outsider in an unknown country, culture and family.  I could not shake off this uncomfortable feeling even after I came back to Sydney, so I decided to take this essence.

I immediately felt more “myself” upon taking it, and quickly forgot about the bad experience, and was just able to focus on other things instead.  As I continued to take it longer, I realised it had an effect on other relationships in my life, such as feeling a stronger sense of belonging at work, feeling more comfortable with people at school, and just feeling more confident and comfortable in society in general.  This made me realise that I had always had issues with fitting into the norm, starting from early childhood when my family moved to America for work and I was one of only a few Japanese students at my school.  Although I loved growing up in America, I always had a very strong complex of being different and resented being labelled as a Japanese, because I had little experience living there and had no connection to it (or so I thought).  Then I moved back to Japan when I was 14, where I had to conform with the Japanese way of belonging.  Now being in Sydney, living with a partner from yet another country (New Zealand), I feel slightly confused at times about my identity. Australians are very laid-back and accepting of other cultures and do not have such a deep-rooted and distinct culture like Japan, where it is difficult for foreigners to fit in.
